Green Bear

(this isn't the real picture though)

Higashiyama’s got green bears… Let’s hope these three polar bears weren’t struck green with envy! These resident beasts of the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical found their fur going green after they took a dip in the zoo’s pond.

According to the experts, there are three explanations that lead Algea as the culprit, (1) Algea in the water caused the color change. Zoo visitors were worried that the animals were sick or infected with mold. (2) Weather temperatures shot up in August and July, and the water was changed less often to save money, which caused the algea growth. (3) Zoo official Masami Kurobe explained that algea enters hollow spaces in the bears’ fur, and is tough to rinse off.

So guys, if you want a green polar bear, soak ‘em with unclean pond water… ^_^
